Whichever way you look at it, the lounge is at the very centre of the clubhouse. It houses the main bar, the main stairs and the largest seating area. It is the place where members formally meet and greet all who visit the club. It is a room which joins to every other, either directly or as a passageway, so it is a room to everywhere or from everywhere. No architect would ever design a lounge like this, it has just happened over the years. It is busy once two members are at the club so it demands fellowship and restricts privacy. Of all the rooms at the clubhouse, it is the one that members would trade for no other and, should you need an answer to the question, its camaraderie would tell you what West Sussex is all about.
