Lady visitors

The West Sussex Golf Club is fully integrated so that ladies share the same rights as men. There are various practicalities of which women visitors should be aware, but they are welcomed just as warmly as the men!

Location

Ladies' changing and locker room facilities, refurbished in 2009, are on the first floor. After checking in at the Pro's shop, they are best approached by using the main entrance. Visitors' lockers are provided. After a game, ladies usually prefer the relative comfort of the main lounge or the conservatory but often choose the terrace in summer.

General

Ladies' day is Tuesday each week.

The written description and pro's tip for each hole on this web site are based on play from the men's tees. For women there are some notable differences:

FOURTH HOLE- The ladies' tee is set well right so the fairway and the fairway bunker are not blind.

SIXTEENTH HOLE- This is stroke index 3 on the ladies' card and confirms the real difficulties of the hole, particularly the second shot to the green. Many prefer to chip their second closer to the end of the fairway to set up an easier (though still demanding) third shot in.

The West Sussex course is regarded as a fair but tough test for women and of championship quality too, as confirmed by various ladies' championship tournaments played here, including:-

Ladies International Match, England v France 1937

English Ladies Close Amateur Match-play Championship 1978

Ladies British Open Amateur Championship 1986

English Ladies Championship 2001

The English Women's Close Amateur Championship 2011
